What Our Interns Have to Say

“I believe that my work has not only benefited EKC but also shaped my perspective on the importance of their mission . This internship has taught me valuable skills, such as Professionalism, teamwork and Communication skills. Includes non-verbal communication and body language, listening skills these skills will be essential in my future and would benefit if i do choose to have this as a career.'“ —Woodensky

“One interaction with youth from the summer that I will remember is when, during an art activity, a participant became super excited about an activity and invited me to work on a drawing with them. They seemed to be having such a good time and were dancing around, eager to express themselves through art and dance, which was just such a sweet and fun moment to be a part of.” —Katya

“Will I do well? That was the first thought that came to mind after being accepted at the internship. I’ve tutored and worked with kids before from another program but I knew this time it was going to be different. My first day at the Brooklyn Public Library was nerve-racking. But perhaps it was because of the inviting and colorful atmosphere of the library, when I stepped into the building I couldn't help but wonder “Wow this is where I'm working? It’s so pretty.” From the staff to the front desk guard, everybody was exceptionally nice and welcoming. This internship has helped me tremendously from discovering tools and helpful habits to track deadlines and give me the push I need to complete work.” —Jennifer

"My time at EKC has been inspiring! Joining all these fun programs has made me feel inspired and very grateful for all of the understanding people I get to work with. My experience at EKC has also helped me think about what career I want to follow in the near future. I'm excited to use the knowledge and skills I've gained from this experience in my future work."—Natasha

RACIAL EQUITY & INCLUSION

Extreme Kids & Crew believes that every child has the right to play and make art as it holds meaning to them, that every family has the right to accurate information and support, and that every employee has the right to a workplace that embraces a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Disability and race are entrenched ideas that have long been used as division and social oppression tools. We work to reverse some of the psychic tolls; this has been caused by making space for loving communities bound by the experience of disability. We work in communities with the world's most prominent African American and immigrant populations, and we recognize that the experience of disability is more complex and dangerous for our Black and Brown members. Through a combination of vision and action, we work to create more equity and understanding of intersectionality within our community and the general population.
